Where I’m From
I am from Hohhot, my hometown in Inner Mongolia, from the vast grasslands flowing beneath the pure white clouds, from the lambs, horses, cows and wolves that roam on the prairie. I am from my dad, my mom, and my brother, from the apartment we live in, and the elevator where I met some of my interesting neighbors, from all of my favorite books set on my bookshelf in my room. from bus stop where I spent a lot of time waiting to travel to the school I work in. I am from shumai, my favorite breakfast food, and from delicious noodles cooked by my mom. I am from the village where my uncle and his family live, a home away from the city full of happy times spent during summer holidays having fun with all the animals. I am from friendly neighbors who live in the countryside, from their kind conversation and invitations for meals, and from the tiny grocery store where I can never find my favorite snacks. I am from my childhood memories where I always return to in my dreams. I am from my hometown Hohhot where I will go back some day no matter how long it takes, and no matter how far I am from it. In that city I call home, I will become a teacher, a farmer, a writer. |
